Vaping cannabis and engaging in a little vape DIY can be both rewarding and fun, and it just might bring out the experimentalist in you. It’s also practical — vaping is very discreet and is a healthier way of ingesting cannabis. This vape dictionary should help you understand some of the terms you’re bound to run into as a vaper.

Types of Vapes

Portable Vape: A small vape, most often in a thin, cylindrical shape, that you can carry around very easily. Vape pens are in this category.

Tabletop Vape: A larger, more intricate-looking vape setup that you can’t carry around very easily. A major benefit of this kind of vape is that it can provide the user with more temperature control than portable vapes can.

Ways to Vape

Cannabis Concentrate: A category of cannabis products that includes tinctures, wax, oil, shatter, rosin, and other concentrated forms of cannabis.

Drip: In a vape dictionary, this refers to a more advanced way of vaping and involves directly dripping e-liquids onto an atomizer.

Dry Herb/Flower: Some vapes heat flower so that it turns into inhalable vapor. This is the more flavorful approach to vaping.

E-Liquid: E-liquid is the solution used in your vape pens and e-cigarettes. It is generally a mixture of glycerin, water, nicotine, propylene glycol, and flavoring. Some companies offer organic e-liquids and some also offer liquids with infused cannabis or terpene extracts.

Vape Parts and Equipment

Atomizer: Also known as an atty, this is a “heating element.” It is the segment of a vaporizer that heats e-liquids up to turn them into inhalable gas.

Cartomizer: An all-in-one atomizer and cartridge. They are disposable and can house a greater volume of e-liquid than a cartridge can.

Cartridge: A mouthpiece that must be attached to an atomizer to be used. It houses the vape e-liquid and usually comes already filled.

Chimney: The central air tube in a clearomizer or tank.

Clearomizer: A cartomizer with clear walls, so that you can see what’s inside.

Coil: In a vape dictionary, this is a coiled metal piece that conducts energy into the atomizer, heating it up.

Drip Tip: An alternative to the cartridge/cartomizer, this is a mouthpiece that attaches directly to the atomizer so that the user can drip e-liquids on it and smoke the vapor that results.

Tank: A clearomizer that is attached to a bigger volume case capable of holding more e-liquid than usual.

Wick: The wick helps the e-liquid to flow to the heating element of the vape at a gradual, controlled pace. Japanese organic cotton is most vapers go-to wicking material.

Vape DIY

De-Waxing: A method of cleaning cannabis concentrations using butane. This method is more difficult than winterizing, but preserves more of the terpenes of the plant.

Propylene Glycol: A substance that forms the basis of many e-liquids. This can be bought over-the-counter.

Steeping: The process of letting newly concocted e-juices sit until the ingredients settle.

Sub-Ohming: The technique of producing large vapor clouds by customizing coils that result in ohm readings below 1.0.

Terpene: Oils that cling to the surface of cannabis plants affecting its effects and aromatic smell. We infuse many of our e-liquids with terpenes.

Vegetable Glycerin: A substance that forms the basis of many e-liquids. This can be bought over-the-counter.

Winterizing: In a vape dictionary, this refers to a method of cleaning cannabis concentrations using ethanol. This is the most commonly-used method but causes the deterioration of terpenes. We offer a better way to winterize through our Clear line.

Cloud: A cloud of vapor. Some vapers are very enthusiastic about “cloud chasing.”

Dry Hit: A harsh-feeling hit that happens when the e-liquid supply is low and you are vaping wick that is too dry from not being soaked enough in e-liquid.

Temperature: Many tabletop vapes allow their users to control their heating temperatures. This is important to get control of because higher temperatures correlate to more THC release and overly high temperatures can be unhealthy.

Vaper’s Tongue: A loss of sensitivity to a specific flavor of vape that a user may experience after using it excessively.
